With more than 20 years' litigation experience, Meg has practised exclusively in criminal law since 2008. She has appeared in cases ranging from straightforward charges to serious and complex prosecutions, representing clients at every stage of the criminal justice process.

Meg’s early career saw her work in large litigation teams initially in Nelson where she gained experience in civil, employment and criminal litigation as well as conducting prosecutions for local authorities. Meg went on to specialise in intellectual property litigation with an intellectual property firm based in Auckland. Meg also worked on large scale class action suit settlement in Australia.

In 2008 Meg moved to Northland to work alongside a prominent defence lawyer at Thompson Wilson Lawyers. Meg joined the Public Defence Service in 2013, initially in the Auckland city office, later moving back to their Dunedin office as a Senior Lawyer in 2016. Meg was a member of the Public Defence Service National Training Committee 2019 - 2023. In 2026, she established her own practice as a barrister sole.

Meg accepts both privately funded and legally aided instructions. She is approved as a PAL 3 lawyer and is available to act as preferred counsel for legally aided cases at this level. She was appointed as a Youth Advocate in 2026.

Meg’s practice includes jury trials, judge-alone trials, appeals, bail applications, sentencing, parole, and youth justice matters. She has extensive experience acting in cases involving serious violence, sexual offending, drug offending, family violence, and driving offences.

Meg believes a good defence begins with listening, and Meg will work with you to understand your circumstances, find the right strategy, and pursue the best possible outcome for you.

Meg’s approach is best summed up by Helen Prejean, who said:  "People are more than the worst thing they have ever done in their lives."
